The river at the end of DANIEL is first and foremost the Mississippi River that flows past Hannibal.
Along it's way down to the Big N.O. in WILD AT HEART.
Of course, there are lots of big rivers in this world, which are all very important as well.
Think A RIVER RUNS THREW IT meets ISLANDS IN THE STREAM.
